Government Accountability
House Democrats unanimously opposed the 2006 repeal of Missouri’s voter-imposed limits on campaign contributions. Now that the Missouri Supreme Court has reinstated those limits, House Democrats will continue the fight to protect the will of voters and oppose any new attempt to repeal the donation caps.
Other proposals to restore integrity and accountability to state government include barring gubernatorial appointees to state boards and commissions from making political contributions during their terms in office, ending political patronage in the awarding of license fee office contracts, establishing a non-partisan system for legislative redistricting, and prohibiting elected officials from also working as paid lobbyists.
