Health Care - Restorations
The Governor also has announced his intention to seek funding for women’s health programs and the so-called “optional” Medicaid services such as vision and dental. However, these are the same programs Governor Blunt eliminated in 2005 and is now taking credit for providing them.
As part of 2007’s MO HealthNet bill, the legislature did provide the legal reauthorization for these programs, but the Governor and the Republican-controlled General Assembly refused to provide funding for the current fiscal year, which began July 1, 2007.
After nearly three years, we are happy the governor is finally acting to partially correct one of the major blunders of his administration. But the fact remains that he never should have eliminated these programs in the first place.
